So relieved that you are back to normal. I loved the post because it made my feet curl. My body stiffened as I read through the ordeal you went through.
The tiny humorous bits (ex - what am I talking?) are well, tiny and they didn’t soften the message that you have taken great pains to put together for us. The assessment (20/10) bit expressed exactly what you wanted to express.
If I could make a request, I would really love it if you could double click on ‘tech alarm bells’ part. There is way too much medtech and I know of people who are fit, eat well, sleep well but are still sad because their BMI machine is telling them that they are laterally obese. The part about medicine/diagnosis assessment being ignorant about asian body type could also be extrapolated. Look at me making silly demands!
I am so glad you have started writing here. Do tell us sometime why spyderdoc?
Thank you so much for commenting. I love your posts on WhatsApp. It’s just to make everyone aware. If one is fit, then bmi or lateral obesity, I wouldn’t worry much as you see players in NFL. Yearly checkup and close followup with your doctor does help to optimize and navigate your health.
I had the same question as Daddu there. Thank you for answering it, and so glad you're healthy again! We're all grateful to you for sharing your insights on this critically important subject, Doc!
Thank you so much Mahima, you are an inspiration to the group. I just need to be as motivated as you in posting regularly. kudos to you on #womaninginindia, much needed articles on various subjects related to women issues. I enjoy reading them.
Dr. Manchireddi, Thank you so much for taking the time to document your experience and journey...not just from the personal health perspective, but using the healthcare system as well. As you know, my circumstances made me a VERY, HEAVY user of the ED, ICU and IMC for multiple years...and through the difficult Covid period. It is important that we, as individuals, do all we can to be participants in maintaining good health. This requires education, assimilation and a willingness to improve and comply. It is also important that we shout from the rooftops where today's healthcare system is failing. I agree wholeheartedly with you about the corporatization of the physician, especially in the hospital system. We are, indeed, most fortunate to have some walking SAINTS among us at our hospital and those walking Saints inspire their teams to be the best healthcare professionals they can be. Thank you for your clear-eyed analysis. As you identify elements that WE can affect improvement, please share. May you continue to recover and improve. Thank you for sharing. Regards, Karen Curcio
Very nicely written so everyone can easily read and understand how and what has happened. You have given good reasoning as well on the cause. I am glad that you are looking after yourself well now. Having known you for such a long time, you have the best heart inside. Good wishes. Sanaulla
I am not a doctor, aged 70 yrs. I can understand how professional burning out leads to health problems. There was one doctor by name Dr.Menon whose clinic was opposite public garden lane Hyderabad. 35 years back he used to see only limited patients very cool not running after money. I do not know now about him now. But a couple of years back I have seen a doctor who is famous not only India, eating biscuits idli with foreseps to avoid removing gloves and washing hands, so that time saved can be utilised to see another patient. Both are doctors but different way of life. Doctors take care about your health and family. After seeing this covid I think only two people are signing their death warrants one is soldiers and other one health care people.
Hi Srinivas, Good observation. India does have less doctors to patient ratio, tend to be busier than most of the western World. Just because of few, I wouldn't blame entire medical system. There are many selfless doctors, working hard during the COVID pandemic without caring for their own personal health. I don't see it as a death warrant, I see it as serve for humanity. Just like soldiers don't runaway from battlefields, so are Doctors.
Thanks for the insight from physician's perspective. The solution part of the article will certainly help people (like me) who had cardiac events in the past.
I love that you wrote this. I imagine this was quite cathartic for you and will hopefully help others. Well done and always so happy to see you healthy!
Hey Suman, glad to know that you are doing well and actively working on your improving your lifestyle to prevent further occurrences. Appreciate your initiative to dig further how and why it affects south asians the most. I lost my dad bcoz of heart attack when he was 60. Unfortunately, he never had a chance to go the hospital and it was hist first time. It was devastating!
Take care man

Hi Dr Suman, very nicely described, and thanks for sharing your story. This echoes exactly what I too went through sometime back with the complete occlusion of RCA (except that I didn’t have ventricular fibrillation during angioplasty). But there was no hyperlipedemia or HTN in my case nor was any other immediate cause. I used to maintain good veg diet, regular walks, good physique and may be the long periods of stress could have been the cause. It is 6months now and still I dread those moments of excruciating pain and the entire episode. Made some irreversible changes to my diet and lifestyle. Hope I am out of the woods for now.
Hi Chandra, stress indeed, can cause undue effect on the heart long term. Keep a close followup with cardiology and take medications. continue with lifestyle changes which you already doing. Hoping for a healthy future. take care.
Suman - I felt like I walked though your experience as I read though. Very nicely written, details and learning/action are to the point and easily understood. The experience you went through and sharing with others, will help cope with situations in their life and focus on what's required to live and prioritize health and well being. I am very glad and happy you are able to come out of the life situations and take it as learning and foundation for future endeavors.
Very well written Doctor. It is a scary post. A person who is a runner going through all this is terrible. Good that you are sleeping well now. Please take care. Keep writing.
Once again I thank you for sharing. At the time you “disappeared” I wondered what had happened. I’d seen you a couple of times for my own issues and was concerned about you, and disappointed to have to try to find another provider. (Still looking😉). I’ve enjoyed your writings so much and am happy to hear of your improved wellness.
Sandra Claire Hill, And oh yeah, have a blessed Christmas season!🌲

An innocent narration of event experienced by doctor self .... Helpful to understand and carries few take aways.
